# Starting Over With a Personal Site

> After years of thinking about it, I finally have a personal site. Here's why and what I plan to do with it.

I've been meaning to build this site for about three years. Kept telling myself I'd do it once I had something worth writing about, which is a decent excuse for never starting anything.

I work as a Customer Reliability Engineer. Most of what fills my week doesn't fit neatly into a LinkedIn post: routing anomalies that took four people and a packet capture to explain, incident calls at odd hours, the slow work of convincing a customer that a fix is actually done and not just quiet for now. None of that has had anywhere to go until now.

## What's going to end up here

Mostly two things, because that's mostly what I think about:

- Reliability engineering: SLOs, how incident response actually goes versus how it's supposed to go, post-mortems that were worth writing
- Network security and DDoS defence: attack patterns I find interesting, and the parts of L3/L4/L7 defence that don't show up in vendor docs

I might also write about whatever certification I'm studying for at the time. We'll see what sticks.

## The build

Astro, deployed on Cloudflare Pages, DNS on Cloudflare too since the domain's already there. Static site, no database, no reason to overcomplicate a personal blog.

```
Framework: Astro
Hosting:   Cloudflare Pages
Domain:    najeeb.uk
```

Nothing clever. It just needed to exist.
